Optical binding corresponds to the effective interaction between particles due to optical forces. This type of coupling is long range in nature and may lead to spectacular non-equilibrium phenomenon in large systems, such as spatial re-organization induced by multiple scattering of light. A substantial number of works have investigated interesting stability features of many body systems when optical biding is present, but only for systems confined to one or two dimensions, frequently using ad hoc friction forces. In this intership period, we will investigate the possibility of achieving stable configurations of cold atomic clouds in three dimensions, without resorting to damping (friction) forces. (AU)
