Abstract

The following project has as its main goal to ground the concepts related to the retention of chromatic information on environments with signage (wayfinding) by colorblind people. The approved and ongoing research titled "Chromatic perception through the lens of inclusive graphic design" FAPESP process n° 2015/04480-2 already predicted the study of the chromatic representation systems for colorblind people CollorADD and Feelipa, both developed in Portugal. The system ColorADD was developed by the Portuguese designer and researcher MSc. Miguel Neiva and has been utilized in Portugal since 2012 in several locations with a large public flow (State Library of Sintra, São João Hospital Center and the subway of Porto). Therefore, it is intended to observe "in loco" how ColorADD is used and its integration with signage systems already existent at the place, as well as to collect information regarding the usability of the color systems with the users (with and without colorblindness), it is also planned to interview the creator of the color system and other researchers involved in the project in order to verify the efficiency and pertinence of the project. Moreover, it is intended to observe the working functioning of the Feelipa code in Lisbon and to interview the creator of this system, the researcher and professor MSc. Filipa Nogueira Pires, with whom a contact has already been established in order to deal with a partnership with the university Unesp. In this manner, the attainment of a Research Internship Abroad (BEPE) will bring new subsidies for an unprecedented application of graphic symbols for color representation in an academic environment in Brazil.
