Abstract

The land cover system can exert significant influence on the flow seasonality standard, in the regime transient peak of flow, for example, by the action of forest cover in reducing rainfall intensity that reach the soil and the increase of infiltration, by increasing the storage capacity water of the soil from the increased infiltration and/or soil structure provided by the more complex root system and litter. In the basin from Ribeirão das Posses develops a forest restoration project (Water Conserver Project/Extrema, Water Producer Program/ANA) in the areas of springs and riparian environments of selected rivers, which may result significant changes of the generation process of the water flow that form the flow of the rivers. It is high scientific interest to understand the water storage patterns in the soil-vegetation system and the dynamics of hydrological flows in the Basin from Ribeirão das Posses, in order to help the assess of the effect of vegetation on water availability and potential of hydrologic services. This proposal aims to investigate the surface water balance in a sub-Basin from Ribeirão das Posses, Extrema, Minas Gerais, with the use of observational field measurements, (i) to analyze the processes of generation of hydrological flow, and (ii) to quantify the components of the water balance in order to get better and deeper understanding of water balance and hydrological regime in the watershed areas of urban water supply systems, and to assist in understanding the relevance of the areas of riparian strips and the recharge of springs in the regime of the surface water flow in the water channel.
