Abstract

The project proposes to study the participation of physical exercise in acute kidney injury (AKI). It is known that physical exercise has fundamental role in chronic kidney disease progression. The question we intend to answer is if practice of exercise would be a protecting factor during renal ischemic insult. The research project will perform physical training in rats, composed by aerobic and strength exercises, during nine weeks. At the end of these nine weeks, the rats will be submitted to bilateral renal hilum clamping, for thirty minutes, followed by reperfusion, in order to induce AKI. The control group will follow the same ischemic process, although they have not been trained - only submitted to light aerobic training, in order to simulate environmental and stress conditions. After AKI has been established, the rats will be assessed on multiple aspects regarding renal function, in order to investigate possible correlations between previous physical exercise and response to AKI. We will analyses glomerular and tubular function, PCNA, apoptosis, klotho and cell cycle.
