Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the histological response of perimplant bone tissue contact with two different surfaces of dental implants placed in bone defects filled or not with biomaterial. Ninety-two titanium implants will be divided into four groups according to the type of surface treatment and the presence of biomaterial in the implant site: (G1) porous-hydrophilic surface without biomaterial; (G2) porous-hydrophilic surface with biomaterial; (G3) porous surface without biomaterial, and (G4) porous surface with biomaterial. The implants will be placed in the tibiae of forty-six rabbits and each animal will receive two implants. The samples will be evaluated by immunohistochemical analysis for detection of osteopontin, osteoprogesterin, receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANK-L), osteocalcin, tatrate-resistant acid phosphatase, run-related transcription factor 2 antibodies and bone matrix proteins by immunoperoxidase detection and 3,3'diaminobenzidine. The analysis of bone quality will be performed by micro computed tomography. The bone-implant contact and bone area fraction occupied will be performed by histomorphometric evaluation. Finally, the gene expression of target genes related to bone formation such as Runx2, Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), and osteocalcin will be evaluated by Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) in three samples of each group at the 60 day period. Data will be tabulated for statistical evaluation according to normality tests. (AU)
