Abstract

The elucidation of genetic factors related to A. aegypti vector competence has been facilitated by the dissection of the mosquito's transcriptional responses to DENV, as well as by QTL studies in populations with midgut infection and scape barriers (MIM and MEB). Similar studies in Brazilian A. aegypti populations are limited to the fact that mosquito populations with different levels of susceptibility to DENV have already not been properly identified and colonized. The obtention of such populations will facilitate not only studies characterizing the genetic factors associated to mosquito's vector competence, but alto the understanding of the influence of the gut microbiota in this process.
