Abstract

The effects of exposure to air pollutants on human health are reflected preferably in respiratory diseases. The most affected age groups are children and the elderly. The objective of this study is to estimate the role of exposure to air pollutants in hospitalizations due to pneumonia in children living in Cuiabá, MT. It will be an ecological time-series study with admissions data in children up to 10 years of age, living in Cuiabá, MT. The admission data will be obtained from Datasus (daily data obtained by routine File Transfer - SIH reduced). The data obtained are air pollutants from CCATT-BRAMS. The study period is from 01.01.2012 to 01.31.2013. The relative risks of hospitalization according to exposure to PM2.5 and CO pollutants will be estimated. The statistical analysis uses the generalized additive Poisson regression model because the admissions are discreet and infrequent data.
