This project proposes the application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in the recognition of types of pores present in rock samples of various types of sedimentary facies generated in fluvial environments, aiming to characterize the heterogeneities and its influence on the percolation of fluids in similar siliciclastic successions of reservoirs of oil or water. The researches will also include the use of basic petrophysical analysis, like the injection of inert gas (helium and nitrogen) to characterize the volume porosity and permeability present in sedimentary facies, as well as the visualization and characterization of the types of porosity in the plugs using X-ray microtomography (microCT), whose data will be compared to the results of NMR. In this project, will be used rock samples collected in sedimentary successions from different ages, quite detailed by the applicant group in which this project is included, like the fluvial deposits of Ipu and Jaicós formations (Silurian of the Parnaíba Basin, located between the border of the states of Piauí and Ceará), and São Sebastião and Marizal formations (South and Central Tucano Sub-basin), considering the current sedimentary studies, stratigraphic and petrophysical that have been conducted by the proponent group in these lithological units, inserted in FAPESP 2013/01825 projects -3 and 2014 / 16739-8. It is estimated that the results obtained in this project can be applied as a tool for a more accurate acquisition of porosity data in siliciclastic succession, with great application in predicting the three-dimensional distribution conditioning properties to the migration of fluids (both hydrocarbons and also for water) in reservoirs generated in depositional systems with characteristics similar to the studied cases. The project will have financial support from the recently approved project by FAPESP 2016 / 03091-5.
