Abstract

This project aims to analyse how gender operates in the crossovers between prison and transnational population movements. The proposal is to examine the juxtapositions between prison and other state devices of borders control, through a dialogue between the studies on the criminalization of migration and the results of an ethnographic work, focused on displacements of women who leave prison and remain as irregular migrants in the countries where they were arrest. The fieldwork will be conducted following the trajectories of a significant number of women with whom I worked during the doctoral research: Brazilian women that were arrested in Barcelona and Spanish women who have spent years trapped in São Paulo. I will also follow the displacements of egresses of the prison system of São Paulo and Barcelona from other countries such as Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa, Bolivia and Colombia. Interlocutors who I met through my initial network of interlocution (AU)
