Abstract

Intense precipitation is a triggering factor of dangerous hydrological and geological events, such as floods, erosion and mass movements. Frequently, such events are responsible for economic and social losses. Therefore, the study of the relationship between rainfall and the occurrence of this kind of event is key. Since intense rainfall is a ruling element for dangerous events to occur, the analysis of rainfall time series and spatial distribution is of great importance, allowing the study of intense precipitation events compared to historical averages, as well as the creation of rainfall distribution maps. In the municipality of São Carlos, Brazil, intense precipitation, urbanization and geological and geotechnical features make the region susceptible to dangerous events. Thus, this project aims to structure a daily rainfall data bank in order to study the behavior of precipitation in this area based on time series data and the computation of the Mobile Cycle Coefficient, making it possible to relate the obtained results with the occurrence of dangerous events within the master's research to which this project is linked.
