Abstract

Many cancer patients display emotional disorders like depression which can affect decisively disease treatment. However, litle is known regarding the influence of depressive behavior on the carcinogenesis and cancer progression. This study aims to analyze the influence of depressive behavior on the induced-4NQO oral carcinogenesis and tumor progression-related genes. We will use 40 male Wistar rats who will be evaluated to the baseline levels of depressive behavior by the tail suspension and forced swimming tests. Subsequently, all animals will be submitted to carcinogenic induction by 4NQO gave in drinking water for 5 months. After this period the animals will be euthanized and the tonguess will be extracted for histopathological analysis and mRNA expression assay (real time PCR) for IL-6, VEGF, MMP-2, MMP-9 and p16. Logistic regression analysis will be carried out to assess whether depressive behavior is predictive to the OSCC incidence and gene expression. We hope better understand the relationship between biobehavioral factors and oral carcinogenesis. (AU)
