The project open new avenues to realize a comprehensive framework of theories concerning the role of plant chemicals and their phylogenetic structure as determinant of multi-trophic diversity. Additionally, the host choice assays and EAG studies will shed light on the mechanisms of host choice by herbivores in tropical systems, which are still poorly studied, and complement our knowledge of natural history in multi-trophic interactions of Piper plants. The identification of VOCs involved in host choice by herbivores could also point to compounds used by parasitoids to find caterpillar hosts. (AU)
