Abstract

Descriptions of turtle’s braincase and inner ear are scarse in literature. The present study focus on describing the referred structures of a fossil specimen related to Podocnemidoidea by using computed microtomography. The material was retrieved from the Grupo Bauru sediments (Upper Cretaceous) located near Monte Alto (São Paulo state), and is partially covered by matrix, hindering its internal view. The virtual reconstruction of the fossil from images generated by CT will provide information unable to be accessed through its mechanical preparation, such as the otic region. The observed characters will be described in comparison with other taxa belonging to the same lineage whose reconstructions are available on digital collections. From this study, the described characters may be included in future phylogenetic and morphological analysis of the group.
