Abstract

The standard treatment for ovarian cancer is primary debunking surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. In specific cases of the disease, it is possible to use an alternate surgical intervention: interval cytoreduction surgery. In both forms of treatment, postoperative morbidity rates are quite significant. Thus, it is essential to highlight the differences between the predictive factors for postoperative complications in primary cytoreductive surgery and in interval cytoreductive surgery. Objective: This research project aims to identify predictors of postoperative morbidity in both primary and interval cytoreductive surgeries in patients with advanced ovarian cancer. Methods: A retrospective study of a selected sample of 200 women with advanced ovarian cancer treated with either primary debunking surgery or interval surgery at the Barretos Cancer Hospital with in the period of July 2011 to July 2015 will be conducted. All patients will be included with the exception of those patients subjected to previous treatments. The patient medical records are collected at the Barretos Cancer Hospital Medical Files Service. These records will be evaluated for clinical, laboratory and radiological preoperative data, intraoperative data and, postoperative data in relation to any cytoreduction surgery complications as well as any delay in the beginning of adjuvant chemotherapy. Expected results: To identify factors related to postoperative complications and delay of adjuvant chemotherapy.
