Abstract

The Roman Catholic Church is the great patronage of reference since it was responsible for financing large works of art history. In this sense, it simultaneously keeps this characteristic. This project, with the assumption the historical background, aims a newer approach. Since the 2000s, the National Sanctuary has experienced a process of modernization made by Redemptorist Missionaries. This research anthropologically examine the Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida through historiographical and ethnographic survey of its construction. In dialogue with the theological, artistic and architectural assumptions, the approach will take place on two levels: as the temple is designed institutionally and as is appropriate daily.
