Abstract

The cosmological observations indicate that the Universe is in an accelerated expansion phase. One possible simple explanation for that is a cosmological constant homogeneously and isotropically filling the entire space. However, this model suffers from serious theoretical problems and there is still room for other exotic explanations. The usual approach consists in writing down a Lagrangian with extra fields and specific interactions, hoping to constrain its parameters and free functions with the available data. On the other hand, the effective action approach, inspired in particle physics, is an attempt to build a general quadratic Lagrangian for perturbations based only on the knowledge of the field content of the dark sector, which is sufficient to generate equations of motion for linearized perturbations. Thus, the comparison with data allows us to constrain whole classes of theoretical models. We intend to follow this approach and use several cosmological data to determine the space of parameters allowed by them. In particular, the next generation of cosmological observations will make use of the 21cm HI emission line as a tracer of the matter content and BINGO is a pathfinder for them. (AU)
