Dictionary of Portuguese-English Verbs for Brazilians learners: elaboration of entry words in 'c'

Abstract

This project proposes research in Bilingual Pedagogical Lexicography-Portuguese-English, subject inserted in the field of Applied Linguistics and social sciences. The studies to be carried out are part of the project for the compilation of the Portuguese-English dictionary of verbs, proposed by Zacarias, 2011, who is also the professor in charge of this research. The referred dictionary is based on a scientific study of the contrast of Portuguese-English languages and on the needs of Brazilian learners of English as a foreign language. Our work will start from the identification of the most used verbs in Portuguese, presented in Bay and Davies (2008) and also in the site: http://www.sketchengine.co.uk/, then we will carry out a study of first ten verbs beginning with the letter C. Our study will evaluate the entries of each of the verbs in four Portuguese-English learner'sdictionaries. At the end of this work, we will present the ten verbs entries, which will be part of the verb dictionary.
