The occurrence of breast tumors in dogs has increased significantly in recent years, which means that further studies may be needed to understand the morphological and physiological events that lead to the development / tumor growth and tissue changes, contributing to the elucidation of new treatments . In addition, many commonalities relating to the biological process of developing these tumors are common in dogs and humans, thereby serving the dog, as an interesting experimental model. However, the literature shows that tumors vary widely according to their degree of malignity, as soon require specific and detailed characterization and identification. The ratings should be made based on histopathological analysis, which are differentiated the tubular, papillary and solid for carcinoma types, according to the cell type and tissue arrangement. Since the literature is still rather scarce on this type of analysis, this project aims to characterize breast tumors (tubular carcinoma) in dogs, based on analyzes histopathological, and also in immunohistochemical analysis (expression of markers involved with epithelial-mesenchymal transition, cell cycle, growth factor and hormone receptors). In addition, special attention will be given the structural changes in the extracellular matrix of tumors as well as in its collagen composition. The analysis will also be conducted in healthy mammary gland samples in order to obtain parameters that can be compared with the results obtained with tumors, as well as understand the changes that occur during carcinogenesis. The results of this project may contribute significantly to the knowledge of the phenotypic characteristics of the tubular carcinoma in dogs as regards the expression of markers, as well as estrogen and progesterone receptors, beyond knowing about the changes that occur in the extracellular matrix during tumor development.
