Abstract

In the implantology field, the biological seal has been regarded as the adequate connective tissue attachment to the abutments surface of dental implant preventing the apical migration of the junctional epithelium and local bone resorption. Bacterial infection and occurrence of inflammation around the implants cause detachment of cells from the substrate, apical migration of epithelium and bone loss, what may negatively influence the expected esthetic outcome. In order to stimulate cells attachment, improving the biological seal in clinical trials of esthetic rehabilitation, different adjuvant therapies have been purposed. Therefore, the aim of the present in vitro study is to assess the effects of photobiomodulation (FBM) on metabolism of the gingival fibroblasts exposed or not to inflammatory stimulus (lipopolysaccharide - LPS treatment) and cultured on round-shaped titanium (Ti) samples. For this purpose, cells seeded on Ti samples will be irradiated for 3 times at 24-h intervals using doses of 0.5 J/cm2; 1.5 J/cm2 and 3.0 J/cm2. Then, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Porphyromonas gingivalis will be applied on the fibroblasts for 24-h period. Cell viability (AlamarBlue® assay) and collagen quantification (Sirius Red) will be performed and specific statistical testes will be used to analyze the obtained data at 5% significance level.
