Abstract

This Research Project aimed to be developed at King's College, London, belongs to the research lines "Translation Studies" and "Literacy and intercultural communication" of the Research Group LEETRA "Languages, ethnicities and styles in transition" (CNPq). I intend, on one hand, to carry on research I have been developing for the last two years during the projects "The construction of bilingual didactic material including indigenous language and culture in correspondence with federal Law 11.645/08" (FAPESP, 2012/15852-0 and CNPq, 306934/2012-4 - PQ) and "Translation and New Literacies" (CAPES/PNPD). On the other hand, I intend to provide new fundaments to the postgraduate course "Translation routes between verbal and non verbal texts" (PPGL/UFSCar and TRADUSP). I have been proposing research focused on the understanding of socio-cognitive, discursive and identity processes inherent in language practices emphasizing, in this case, translation processes amidst verbal and non-verbal texts. Among other approaches, I explore critical discourse analysis (Fairclough, 2001), the concept of discourse genres (Bakhtin, 1995, 1997; Swales, 1990; Bhatia, 2004), Cultural Semiotics theory (Lotman, 2005) and also issues inherent in Translation Studies (Jakobson, 1973; Derrida, 2002; Benjamin, 2010; Pym, 2011; Meschonnic, 2010). I intend to develop the Research Project based on bibliographical research, translation practices concerning Portuguese/English languages and multiple conversations together with Professor David Treece at King's College, London, as well as on visits to other research centres and educational institutions, based, in this case, on the particular interest about the forms of utilization of literary texts for the intermediation between different literacy practices involving immigrants, as well as the utilization of digital resources in primary schools.
