THE PRESENCE AND CIRCULATION OF THE ITALIAN BOOK HEART OF EDMONDO DE AMICIS IN THE PORTUGUESE EDUCATION

Abstract

In order to extend the possibilities of ongoing master's research, it is proposed in this project, the investigation about the circulation of a book called Heart, of Edmondo de Amicis, in Portugal and its presence in the Portuguese education in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Starting from the understanding of books as "cultural artifacts" is intended to carry out an analysis about the processes of translation, dissemination, adoption and use of Cuore in Portuguese territory, seeking to decode the ideological conflicts relevant to the context of popularization of this book. To carry out the proposed research, document analysis will be the privileged methodological option, considering, for this purpose, sources such as school documents, regulations and legislation, correspondence and articles published in journals and newspapers of the period. The survey of primary and documentary sources will take place in Coimbra: General Library on the University, in the School Library Education and in the Municipal Library of Coimbra; and Lisbon: the Historical Archive of the National Library of Portugal, the General Secretariat of the Historical Archives of the Ministry of Education and Science and the National Archives Torre do Tombo.
