Abstract

Industries generate tons of waste (lignocellulosic waste), for example, sugarcane and barley bagasse, white sludge from pulp and paper industry. These wastes can be used in many processes, once they serve as a raw material for the biotechnological production of various compounds, for example, the alternative paper. Lignocellulosic residues mainly contain in their structure cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, which are intrinsically associated. For paper fabrication, conventional methods of treatment are very harmful to the environment and, consequently, to living beings. Investigations able to overcome these risks have been developed, and in this perspective, the application of enzymes in primary pulp biobleaching (derived from vegetable fibers of tree and no tree species) or secondary (from recycled paper) is an alternative, which has shown considerable interesting. The aim of this study is to conduct a screening of some identified fungi, present on the mycology collection of Laboratório de Microbiologia e Biologia celular in the Departamento de Biologia of the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto - Universidade de São Paulo - SP, coordinated by Professor Dr. Maria de Lourdes T. M. Polizeli, to select the best producer of xylanolytic, cellulolytic and amylolytic system. The optimization of medium will also be done, as well as the production and development of enzyme cocktails for application in cellulose pulp biobleaching for manufacturing paper from sugar cane and barley bagasse, and recycling paper from newspapers, magazines and xerox.
