Exposure to loud noise can damage the hair cells of the organ of Corti and cause progressive and irreversible hearing loss. In the last decade, there has been a significant increase in popularity of personal stereos and many users listen to music in noisy environments. Studies have raised concerns about the use of portable audio devices, as these contribute to the development of hearing loss, causing symptoms such as distortion, tinnitus, hyperacusis or changes in the threshold. Objectives: To evaluate the sound pressure levels produced by personal stereos in young users, through the Microphone In Real Ear equipment (MIRE) Dosimeter System, as well as assessing the habits involved in the use of personal stereos. Methods: 30 individuals will participate of this study, of both sexes, students, which refer to the habit of using personal stereos at least once a day. Initially, a questionnaire will be applied to evaluate the daily habits of personal stereo use. Then, the measurement of sound intensity of personal stereos be performed, with the volume that refer to the participant to listen more often. A measure with probe microphone using the Noise Dosimeter Dual Channel with Octave Bands - SV 102, the SVANTEK brand will be held. Subsequently, the data is tabulated and a descriptive analysis will be done. These data will be compared with the listening habits mentioned in the questionnaires.
