Abstract

The aim of the project is to investigate the signaling paths involved in fear memory to predatory threats. Signaling paths related to corticosteroids, noradrenaline and glutamate are good candidates to be involved in mediating plastic changes in neurons in the lateral amygdala, a critical site to store fear memory. Moreover, previous studies have also shown the involvement of mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) - as involved in controlling protein synthesis related to memory acquisition - and the PKMzeta - as related to the stabilization of memory processing. In the present study, we shall investigate the involvement of the signaling paths related to NMDA, glucocorticoids and beta-adrenergic receptors, as well as the potential role of mTOR and PKMzeta in memory processing of predator-related fear.
