Abstract

Citrus canker is a serious disease that affects the growing of citrus fruits and has a significant impact in the commercialization of these fruits on national and international markets. Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri is one of the bacterial pathogenic agents of citrus canker and is one of the species that causes the most diseases in crops. They are bacteria that cause lesions in crops that can necrotize afterwards. The attempts to prevent and treat the diseases caused by these bacteria have led to many natural resources being studied and used as raw materials to obtain new pesticides able to act against microorganisms. This is of huge clinical value to the usage of sustainable natural resources, as it prevents and eradicates these plant pathogens. These products are an important part of Brazil's natural wealth and can be utilized as therapeutic agents in the manufacturing of numerous solutions used to improve the quality and conditions of these crops. This project aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity of natural substances isolated from plants in fifteen strains of Xanthomonas citri. Broth dilution is the method of evaluating this antibacterial activity in order to determine the Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). Additionally, the MIC will determine the Minimal Bactericidal Concentration (MBC), as well as the Minimal Biofilm Inhibitory Concentration (MBIC). Today's need of new pesticides is necessitated by the huge number of pests on which pesticides have been largely ineffective. Thus, this project aims to provide new information to enable the future development of new pesticides derived from these natural products.
