Abstract

The positioning and shape of the occlusal posterior teeth in complete dentures are extremely important for to lead an adequate masticatory performance of edentulous patient. Besides the occlusal scheme, the use of dental implants can contribute to masticatory performance because they improve the retention and stability of the prosthesis, particularly the lower prosthesis. Thus the objectives of this study are: conduct a randomized crossover clinical trial to evaluate the masticatory performance and maximum bite force in wearers of single implant-retained overdenture in lower arc with Conventional Balanced Occlusion and Lingualized Balanced Occlusion. The maximum bite force will be measured with a gnathodynamometer and masticatory performance using an artificial food test (dense condensation silicone cubes) chewed for: (a) 30 chewing cycles, (b) 40 chewing cycles and (c) until the subject feels ready to swallow. Statistical analyzes will be make to check the results, using as variables types of prosthesis, occlusal schemes and number of chewing cycles.
