Abstract

The recent advances in CAD (computer aided design) and CAM (computer aided manufacturing) tools are revolutionizing the way of thinking and produce the architecture as well as the relations between architects, other professionals in the construction and production methods. In addition to insert complex geometries in architecture, it also allowed through parametric methods, computer simulations, genetic algorithms and optimizations, to insert information that allowed creating integrated solutions between architecture and performance. The architectural design is a task that involves meeting multiple criteria, which are often conflicting. The introduction of analysis tolls at the beginning of the process can help to achieve a better match between those criteria. When evaluating building performance on issues such as heat gain or structure from the beginning of the design process, it can change aspects such as structural distribution, orientation, arrangement of openings, facades protection, geometry etc., aimed at better building performance. This research aims to develop and implement a parametric generative system for complex geometries, exploring structural optimization tools and heat gain in the early stages of the design process, creating a design tool that aids in multi-criterial analysis and development of the project from the early stages of the design process.
