Abstract

Polymeric materials, especially composite resins, have been extensively employed and new formulations have been often proposed. Acquired pellicle is a film constituted mainly of salivary proteins of glycoproteins that deposit onto the surfaces that are exposed to the oral environment. However, the composition of the acquired pellicle formed on surfaces of composite resins was never studies. Also changes in the composition of the acquired pellicle when the composition of the resin materials is changed was not studied before. Thus, this study will evaluate the influence of the addition of inorganic filler and/or protease inhibitors to experimental composite resins on the protein composition of the acquired pellicle formed on the resin specimens. Specimens (5 mm diameter and 3 mm thickness) will be prepared with Bis-GMA and TEGDMA (70/30 mol%)experimental composite resins. These specimens will be divided into 2 maisn groups (n=60 per group), one with the addition of inorganic filler and the other with 70% inorganic filler (in weight). Each group will be divided into 3 subgroups (n=20 per subgroup) that will differ with respect to the absence or presence of protease inhibitor(1% EGCG or 1% chlorhexidine. Stimulated saliva will be collected from 3 volunteers and used to form acquired pellicle on the specimens of composite resin (100 µL per specimens, for 2 h). The pellicle will be collected with wick filters pre-soaked in 3% citric acid and processed by analysis through nLC-ESI-MS/MS.
