Abstract

This research project has as objective the important stage development tangents to a doctoral project that has been developed since 2013 with the main objective to analyze the place that the photography inserted in contemporary art discourse occupies in art museums of some world capitals of art and culture. In fact, what is intended requesting the BEPE to FAPESP is to perform an essential step, as contained in the initial design of doctoral project submitted and funded by FAPESP, which is the field research in archives and libraries of elected museums which take part of this research. In addition, the stage on abroad aims to deep the project's bibliographies and analysis, from numerous academic research situations, especially from the supervision for one year by the researcher Philippe Dubois, who will give important guidelines for the project. Another important situation of this stage will be the researcher's active participation in the research group coordinated by Philippe Dubois at the University Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3.During the period of one year the researcher will also participate in academic, institutional and cultural events in Paris and in France in general, to denser the research and the analysis developed from exchanges with other researchers and theorists of the field. The doctoral research project already funded by FAPESP develops from the proposal to analyze the place that the photography inserted in contemporary art discourse occupies in the museums of photography, modern and contemporary art, in three world art and culture capitals. Thus, the following museums, as to their temporary collections and exhibitions proposed and carried out in a time frame that covers the first decade of this century are the focus of this project, as well as theoretical and bibliographic contribution pertinent and relevant to the treatment of the theme: São Paulo Museum of Modern Art (MAM SP), Museum of Contemporary Art of São Paulo (MAC USP), Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA), International Center of Photography (ICP New York) Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris) and Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris). In the current phase is already finished the New York's research phase and part of the São Paulo research, which will be finalized by the end of 2015.From the data collected in the archives and libraries of important elected institutions and from important dialogues with actors, thoughts and documents that are part of the historical construction of the institutionalized and contemporary photography, directly or indirectly, analyzes have been developed, especially over the place that the photography inserted in the context of contemporary art occupies in these museums as well as other analyzes and reflections on even what was and what is contemporary photography in the twenty-first century, from the attention approached to it by art institutions, by artists and other elements of the historical and cultural construction. Some important theoretical contributions have been worked on and discussed by analysis, in particular through the textes written by Rosalind Kraus, Philippe Dubois, Dominique Baqué, Tadeu Chiarelli, Michel Poivert Michael Fried, Jean-François Chevrier, François Soulages, among others important photography's theories which help to think what is the photography today when it is found in the boundless field of discourse, languages and possibilities that is the field of contemporary art.
