Housing policies, social housing and the city of São Paulo: the case of housing projects Heliopolis g & Jardim Lidiane III

Abstract

In 2009, the federal government established the Minha Casa Minha Vida program (MCMV), which allocates resources to the construction of social housing in Brazil. In a country with a housing deficit estimated at 5.6 million, is a priority to invest in comprehensive programs in the field of housing, especially when aimed at lower income classes. However, these programs should be accompanied by researches to evaluate their results and guide the next steps. Considering that about 84% of the population lives in cities, one of the biggest challenges of these new housing centers is the integration with the existing urban area. Especially in large cities where the intense growth affect the collective practices. The objective of this research is to identify the spatial patterns (understood as the relationship between architecture and city) in the housing projects Heliopolis G & Jardim Lidiane III, built in the city of São Paulo during the last decade. In this sense, this research proposes: a) spatial analysis of the typologies; b) the relationship of these typologies with the existing city; c) the transformation of these spaces of habitat in the development of the city; d) the reception and incorporation of these alternatives to discipline and e) the consolidation of the documents of these projects for future research. This project is part of a wider research, coordinated by professor Leandro Medrano (FAUUSP).
