Management and use of organic waste in Andalusia (Spain): examples for Brazilian municipalities

Abstract

In many countries, such as Brazil, the organic fraction constitutes the most significant part in the composition of waste being sent to landfill. Still, this type of waste is less focused on municipal management systems with few proposals for composting plants, unlike the situation of European countries, such as Spain. The composting provides a useful destination for organic waste by preventing their accumulation in landfills and improving soil structure. Thus, we aimed will be to know the studies conducted by the group at the University of Cordoba, the implemented techniques and tested in the experiments, visit the areas of the experiments and composting plants in operation, know the actions to involve the population in the disposal of waste and other activities that may be necessary. It is of great importance a study to examine further the most current technical of composting, managing quality of the compounds that can effectively improve the soil and various crops. (AU)
