Abstract

In the current scenario where climate change drastically interfere in rainfall, causing drought never before registered in the state of São Paulo, together with lack of investment of public spheres in water conservation, we see the importance of studies on the watersheds, and their watersheds (<1,000 ha) forming, falling in our state. Specifically in the PCJ Basin (rivers Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiaí), which includes the Cantareira system, there is a water supply dependence of approximately 8 million people in the metropolitan region of São Paulo and 4.5 million of the PCJ Basin. Therefore, this basin is paramount strategic restoration and conservation of watersheds in the headwaters of Camanducaia and Jaguari rivers, located in southern Minas Gerais. In this region, in the watershed of the river ribeirão das posses, tributary of the Jaguari River, began in 2007 the "Conservative Project of Water", which provides financial incentives and technical support to landowners who agree to preserve and/or restore the springs in their property in order to contribute to the main channel of the river ribeirão das posses, through a system of Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES). To evaluate the results of these actions, this research aims to study the temporal parameters of quality and quantity of water, indicating the conditions of sustainability of restoration actions/conservation/preservation implemented in the springs in the basin and thus can suggest proposals for adaptation of the areas covered by the program, as well as expansion of this measure to other areas where there is the possibility of application.
