Abstract

From the perspective of the discursive semiotics, this study will analyze the recurrences of themes and the figures through observation of form and content similarities among the patriotic anthems. In Brazil, there are different anthems to symbolize the nation, the states and the municipalities; hence we chose the patriotic anthems that represent each segment in order to conduct a comparative study. They are: the Brazilian National Anthem and the Brazilian Flag Anthem, representing the national ones, the Anthem of São Paulo (state), and the municipal anthems of Araraquara and São Carlos. The option for these anthems as the analysis materials is due to the observation of a group with particular characteristics which differentiate the anthems from other text genres. The selected anthems as corpus allow verifying through style intersection, the discursive strategic similarities, which through the saying; and mainly, through the way of saying, can captivate the enunciate whose involvement and identification are the result of a meaning effect. Thus, the research will apprehend the meaning construction, analyzing the utterances that, covered with themes and figures, evoke the jingoism and the patriotic pride and show a believing, a wanting and a having-to-be citizen. Therefore, the anthems establish the identity and the social or collective bonding, because in the co-utterance process, the individuals sing the patriotic song to manifest their identities. (AU)
