Auditory processing and electrophysiological evaluation: the impact otitis media in childhood

Abstract

Objective: To verify the results of auditory processing assessment and electrophysiological evaluation in children who suffering from recurrent otitis media. Specific objectives: to analyze the results obtained in tests of auditory processing in children without otitis media history and children who suffered from recurrent otitis media in childhood; to analyze the latency response of click ABR and P300 test. Methods: A total of 60 students between 8 and 14 years old, males and females, will be divided into two groups. The Control Group (CG) consists of 30 children without otitis media history, the Experimental Group (EG) consists of 30 subjects who suffering from recurrent otitis media in childhood. All children undergoing complete audiological evaluation and assessment of auditory processing which included the following tests: dichotic digits, competing sentences, pitch pattern sequence, gaps-in-noise and electrophysiological tests which included click ABR and P300. Expected Results: to find abnormal results in auditory processing test and P300 in children from EGI and normal results in children from CG. (AU)
