Abstract

The survival rate of dental implants is considered elevated, but increasingly elderly patients require oral rehabilitation with dental implants. There is no consensus whether elderly patients with osteoporosis have a higher rate of bone loss around the implants and/or failure of implants when compared to patients without this systemic change. In addition, the literature needs a recommendation protocol and clinical management for placing dental implants in this group of patients. The objective of this project is to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis, adopting the model for Cochrane systematic reviews and meta-analysis in order to analyze the rate of implantation failure and peri-implant bone loss. The databases PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Collaboration, EMBASE e SciELO will be consulted with the purpose of selecting the area studies from specific descriptors: "osteoporosis" and "dental implants." The data will be tabulated and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using Reviewer Manager 5.3 (Review Manager - RevMan. Version 5.3 Copenhagen; The Nordic Cochrane Centre, The Cochrane Collaboration, 2014). The analyzed data will be considered statistically significant for p values <0.05. Articles will be qualitatively classified according to bias scales based on the Cochrane scale. Quantitative analysis of biases will be conducted with Reviewer Manager 5.3 (Cochrane Group) software. The data collected will allow answer the null hypothesis formulated that implants placement in patients with osteoporosis not have a lower survival rate when compared to implants placed in patients without this systemic involvement. Furthermore, this project allows will elect a possible protocol for the use of dental implants in systemically compromised patients with osteoporosis.
