Luminescence in situ measurements to study Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films of europium coordination compounds

Luminescent materials based on coordinated lanthanide ions to organic ligands are so important due to the many applications in optical molecular devices and light emitters (such as OLEDS). The conformation of these complexes film enhances the application of the optical properties in the building of special devices, and the different thickness control and the order in molecular level can achieve a better performance. In this work it will be studied the optical properties of the europium complexes in different conformations, such as, in Langmuir films (in situ measurements), Langmuir-Blodgett films and solid bulk. From observed features of different systems it will be possible to establish standards for the in situ spectroscopic properties measurements that require a careful study because it is a pioneering measure. For this study self organized films of luminescent complexes will be prepared and analyzed by adequate techniques, including photoluminescence spectroscopy with UV excitation (in situ) and depending on the stability of the complexes, luminescence spectroscopy with X-ray excitation, emphasizing that in situ monitoring is important because it elucidates mechanisms of luminescence and energy transfer, allowing to compare with other conformations.
