Understanding the association of species with certain environments has a vital importance to assess the determinants of richness and diversity of an area. Aspects of the natural history of several species of Atlantic Forest snakes are relatively well known, but little is known about the association of some species to certain habitats (e.g. forested and open areas). In the case of lizards, data on the natural history are scarce and even less is known about the habitat use. Thus, this study, in addition of clarifying this important aspect of the ecology of these animals, supporting data for its conservation, fills gaps that can answer questions about their distributions along the Serra do Mar. The objective of this study is to describe the distribution and diversity of a community of snakes and lizards along a mosaic of forested physiognomies and nebular fields. The study will be conducted in Núcleo Curucutu of Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar (PESM). Two kinds of traps will be used along 12 months, during monthly campaigns of seven days (Pitfall and Funnel traps), equally distributed between the fields and forests of the mosaic. Besides active search (Limited Time Search) and casual encounters during locomotion. The specimens collected will be deposited in the herpetological collection of Instituto Butantan and the ones that exceed the authorized number will be tagged and released in the same capture site.
