Abstract

How the serotonergic signaling modulates the colon carcinogenesis remains unclear. 90 C57BL/6 mice will be exposed to the carcinogen azoxymethane (AOM). AOM-exposed mice will be sacrificed at different-time points of the colon carcinogenesis. Colon samples will be analyzed to determine serotonin levels, formation of DNA adducts, and development of aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in the colon tissue. These experiments will provide a timeline view of how serotonin plays a pivotal role in the colonic tissue reaction against a carcinogenic exposure.
