Abstract

We are pursuing the establishment of a synergic scientific cooperation in the field of organic electronics between the Flexible Electronics Laboratory from The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and the IC Packaging Lab from CTI. The ultimate goal is to combine the strong know-how of the UTD's group on fabrication, characterization and modeling of flexible electronic devices and CTI's expertise on rational materials synthesis and printing techniques. Specifically, in this project is proposed the development of a neutron detector system that includes a sensing diode comprising a p-type polymer + electron acceptor + Gd-157 neutron sensitive nanoparticle and a converter layer composed by B-10 embedded in a polymer matrix. The system is a solid-state detector called Converter in Diode (CID) and it employs neutron-induced reactions to release detectable ionizing radiation. Our approach also aims to integrate the developed neutron detection system with flexible complementary metal oxide semiconductor (Flex-CMOS) on the same substrate, enabling large-area neutron imaging. Research methods and results will be efficiently exchanged between the project partners in order to increase the scientific and engineering knowledge in fundamental processing-structure-property relationships.
