Superradiance is the phenomenon in which incident waves are amplified after being reflected by a scattering potential. This amplification depends basically on the boundary conditions associated with the wave equation that describes the problem. It can occur, for example, for waves scattered by a rotating and/or charged black hole and for waves scattered in an axisymmetric system with dissipation (like Zel'dovich's cylinder). Analogue models of gravity, on the other hand, are physical systems whose behaviour can be described by classical/quantum fields in a curved spacetime. These analogue models represent an alternative way to test, both theoretically and experimentally, predictions of the quantum field theory in curved spacetimes. The aim of this project is to study superradiance in dissipative systems (in particular, in analogue models of gravity without black holes, but in which some form of energy dissipation is present). In order to accomplish this, we propose a short-duration visit (2 months) to the University of Nottingham, UK, for a scientific collaboration with Dr. Silke Wienfurtner and her group. The collaboration will allow both the theoretical analysis of the problem and the participation of the proponent in the hidrodynamical experiments related to analogue models of gravity being led by Dr. Silke Weinfurtner.
