The hydrodynamic impact is an important issue in coastal, offshore and naval engineering because large and cyclical hydrodynamic impacts loads may damage the coastal or offshore structures or the equipments installed on them, or compromise their operations. Among the hydrodynamic impact phenomena, there is the green water, which consists of water boarding when the wave height is higher than the free board of the floating structures. It is a highly nonlinear hydrodynamic problem that involves very complex structure geometry and extremely large free surface deformation such as wave breaking and splashing. Another challenge for the modeling of this phenomenon is the large dimensions required to taken into account open sea conditions. In the last decade, lagrangian particle based methods such as Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) shows excellent results for nonlinear hydrodynamic problems with free surface. The aims of the present research project is to modeling and simulation of hydrodynamic impact phenomena in order to aid in testing and validation of the simulation system based on MPS method in developing the Numerical Offshore Tank of the University of São Paulo, and carry out some basic investigation of the green water and the devices for the mitigation of the problem.
