Interaction and conceptualization: a study of the relations between frames, context and reference

Abstract

The plan of activities comprises:i) The development of theoretical and analytical issues of pragmatic and sociocognitive perspective of the research in progress, dedicated to analyze the role of semantic and interactional frames to the organization of discourse topic in conversations developed in everyday interactional practices between aphasics and non-aphasics, held in the Aphasic Community Centre (University of Campinas). Our main hypothesis considers that models through which we understand and organize the world (such as frames), for their intersubjective properties and perspectival nature (cf. TOMASELLO 2003 [1999]), play an important role in organizing and managing conversational interactions. The contributions of this research project to important issues of conversational and textual studies agenda - cognition in interaction - are noteworthy: i) the theoretical and empirical bases of mutual constitutivity relationship between language and cognition through the analysis of frames roles, specially to the development and management of topic in the context of everyday discourse; ii) the empirical support of the renewed discussion on the scope of the term aphasia as loss of metalanguage stricto sensu (i.e., only on linguistic system); iii) the establishment of methodological criteria for analysis of linguistic and interactional data - with multimodal nature - in the field of Aphasiology; ii) The inclusion of the researcher in the routine and dynamics of IJN (Institut Jean Nicod), by integrating the research group of Prof. Dr. François Recanati and by the participation of seminars and other events; iii) The development of actions for the consolidation of a bilateral agreement involving IJN and State University of Campinas (UNICAMP).
