Abstract

Titanium alloys are versatile and widely applicable as structural materials. Several studies aim to increase gas turbine efficiency through optimizing the surface treatment using mainly Ti-6Al-4V. The optimization and reducing costs needs involved in the aeronautical components production and using are based in different microstructural conditions under static or dynamic loading tests. The fatigue tests are treated as an effective indicator of the materials performance under different thermomechanical treatments and/or thermochemical conditions, allowing also macroscopic behavior and possible microstructural changes behavior. In this research, it is intended to study the Ti-6Al-4V alloy behavior subjected to nitrogen addition by 3IP superficial treatment under fatigue conditions. Thus, rotating bending tests will be performed, considering the Ti-6Al-4V Widmanstätten characteristic configuration. The study will be complemented with microstructural analysis of untreated and treated samples using X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques, microhardness and residual strength measurements.
