The Twisted File (TF) Adaptive system (SybronEndo, Orange, CA) uses a combination of continuous rotary and the reciprocating movement. The Adaptive Movement technology is based on a smart algorithm designed to work with the TF system that allows the file to adapt to intra-canal torsional forces, depending on the amount of pressure placed on the instrument. The result is a better debris removal with the proven classic TF system and a better root canal preparation. The single-file Reciproc system (VDW, Munich, Germany) was developed to prepare the root canal in reciprocating movement, which relieves stress on the instrument, removes significant quantity of dentin walls but with less debris removal. The aim of this study is to evaluate, ex vivo, using micro-computed tomography, the preparation of long-oval root canals comparing the system that combines rotary and reciprocating movement to the pure reciprocating movement system. Distal canals of forty mandibular molars will be selected and randomly divided in two groups: G1 - TF Adaptive and G2 - Reciproc R50. Using a micro-computed tomography SkyScan 1172 each specimen will be subjected to three scans: preoperative, post-operative and post-final Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation. Morphometric variations will be measured by presence and quantification of hard-tissue debris; volume increases and remaining untreated canal surface area. The entire root canal and each of its thirds will be evaluated. The results will be tabulated and submitted to D'Agostino's test to the identification of sample normally distribution and then submitted to statistical analysis. (AU)
