Abstract

Climate change is positioned in the center of the debate on global environmental changes, as one of the main challenges of global society at the entrance of the 21st century. In terms of climate change responses, it is argued that governments are important actors that play a key role in defining appropriate rules, institutions and modes of governance to address these changes at different levels and scales. China has been noted for its importance in the international arena and, above all, the importance of environmental issues, especially climate change, at the core of its political processes. Policy measures aimed at climate issue in this country may lead to the reconfiguration of international negotiations on the subject. The main objective of this proposal is to analyze the internalization process of the climate issue in political terms in China, from 1992 to 2012. In order to achieve this objective, it is proposed a two-month research at the Department of Political Science at San Francisco State University, under the supervision of Professor Sujian Guo, from March to April, 2016. The results of this research will be integrated in the paper under construction entitled "Climate change in China: The political internalization of climate issue from 1992 to 2012".
