The research proposes a selection, translation and commentary of the Latin original excerpts from the seventeenth book of Intitutiones grammaticae of Prisciano Caesarean (ca. 500 d. C.). With the translation and study of these excerpts is intended to better understand the thinking of the Latin grammarian for syntax, in particular, to understand how the Latin syntax was understood and taught in the centuries that came immediately before the start of the High Middle Ages. The theoretical framework will be adopted in the research comes from the Konrad Koerner's ideas (1989) and Pierre Swiggers (2004); both representatives of Historiography Language (HL). According to Koerner, Historiography Linguistics must have a dual targeting therefore must examine external elements, which he called "climate of opinion", and theoretical elements or internal linguistic theories describing. The project has as basic premise this proposed dual approach and want to apply it to understanding the Prisciano ideas about Latin syntax.
