The rehabilitation with dental implants has high success rates. However, bone quality and quantity directly influence these results. Therefore, it is important careful planning of rehabilitation with implants. Histomorphometry is the "gold standard" in the evaluation of bone tissue, but its use is impractical in routine clinical. Computed tomography (CT) and computed microtomography (micro-CT) are considered adequate for bone assessment, however, resources are not applicable in all cases of clinical practice. In this context, the conventional radiography is still the first option. Therefore, it is important to conduct studies to correlate the clinical, radiographic bone evaluation and the initial stability of implants with other resources such as histomorphometric analysis and computed microtomography. A comparison of findings of bone quality of these methods can enable reliable planning of implants performed routinely in clinics using clinical and radiographic evaluation. The objective of this study is to comparatively evaluate the findings through clinical evaluation, imaging studies, histomorphometric analysis and initial stability of different implants maxillo-mandibular areas. For this, 60 implantable areas of the maxilla and mandible are evaluated by digital periapical and panoramic radiographs; Clinical classification of the bone quality as proposed by Lekholm and Zarb (1985), and subsequently the fitting of implants, by measuring the initial stability. Bone biopsies obtained from implantable areas will be evaluated by micro-CT and histomorphometry. (AU)
