Based on the PhD outcomes (SHINZATO, 2014), the present research intends to continue the study about the impact of vegetation on urban microclimates, due to soil-vegetation-atmosphere interactions and the objective of this work is to,verify the potencial of green infrastructure as strategy to mitigate the warming in cities. In this sense, this research aims to: (1) quantify the effect of green infrastructure on microclimate (specific humidity, air and surface temperature) and human comfort (application of thermal comfort index for open spaces) in different urban morphologies, as a function of soil / vegetation / atmosphere interaction; (2) explore different possibilities for urban design to include vegetation in the city of São Paulo, considering the potencial impact on microclimates and in peoples thermal comfort; (3) suggest the adoption of strategies for public policies, based on the results. The methods are: inductive, with field measurements for air temperature, humidity and surface temperature, as well as registering other data that characterizes local microclimatic conditions (direction and wind speed, solar radiation, sky view factor); and deductive, with the comparison between the results obtained in different situations previously mentioned. After the calibration based on measured and simulated data, the studies with STEVE and ENVI-met 4 model will be essential to create and evaluate the potential to mitigate urban warming in predictive scenarios that vegetation will be incorporated in different configurations (linear parks, pocket parks, green walls and green roofs). Based on the analysis of simulation results, the research will propose strategies to use vegetation as a form to mitigate urban warming, considering current legislation, such as São Paulo Strategic Master Plan (PDE), the ongoing planning review of Municipal Land Use Law (LPUOS) and environment agency's programs.
