Myocardial infarction (MI) is the most common cardiovascular disease and presents higher mortality rates worldwide. Among the dynamic processes of MI, the inflammatory status and the autonomic imbalance between sympathetic and parasympathetic are some of the most relevant. In this sense, possible drug therapies using acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, such as pyridostigmine bromide (PYR), has aimed increasing parasympathetic tone to the heart and possibly reduce cardiac inflammation. We hypothesized that the PYR treatment, prior to IM, could have an additional positive effect on autonomic function, and therefore the inflammatory response of animals. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the autonomic and inflammatory responses of myocardial ischemia in rats previously submitted to treatment with pyridostigmine bromide. Male Wistar rats will be treated for 60 days with PYR, and after this period, the animals would be submitted to MI surgery. After MI, direct hemodynamic evaluations, baroreflex sensitivity, autonomic modulation (spectral analysis) and the concentration of cytokines (ELISA) will be performed. Results will be presented as mean ± standard error of the mean, and ANOVA statistical tests will be properly applied. P <0.05 will be considered significant.
