Abstract

This research aims to study the hybridism between theatre and cinema in the contemporary context. Within the complexity of this relationship, it will be analyzed the effective presence of the cinema as language and instrument on several Brazilian plays and possibly experimentations in other countries. In this context, two interlocking spaces arise on scene: the filming that takes place on the stage, with editing and sound mixing in real time, played throughout the staging; the very staging that appropriates the set, just like a movie appropriates of the here and now of a live scene. Therefore cinema and theatre interacts generating a scenic spectacle.During the doctoral training I intend to analyze the impact of this interaction on the relationship between actors and spectators. From the perspective of staging, apparently there is a new dimension of presence as the actor interacts not only directly with the spectator but also through the mediation of cameras and microphones. It leads, beyond the living presence, to the filmic presence. Thus, while analysing specific plays, I intend to identify the different kinds of presence that inhabit the space between theatre and cinema. From the concept of "presence effect", developed by Professor Dr. Josette Fèral, it will be discussed the new forms of interaction between the actor and his own image projected on the stage. I believe, therefore, that the questions proposed in this research justifies the doctoral training with co-supervision of Prof. Dr. Josette Fèral, the most important author of this research line.
